Symptoms of Fibromyalgia syndrome

The symptoms and signs of Fibromyalgia are highly variable. They will vary among different individuals and they can even vary depending on weather conditions, time of the day, exercise or stress. They do however always include pain and fatigue.

The pain typical for Fibromyalgia is usually described as a chronic dull aching in muscles in all quadrants of the body, which means left as right, lower body and upper body at the same time. The Fibromyalgia patient suffers additional pain when pressure is exerted on so called tender points.

The fatigue of the Fibromyalgia patient mostly is described as a consequence of the disability to really achieve the deep sleep recovery, which is typical for healthy individuals. The perceived fatigue amounts to waking up almost as tired as one would be without any sleep at all. The Fibromyalgia related fatigue is very similar to a chronic fatigue syndrome.

Additional, but frequently varying symptoms include: depression, endometriosis, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Lupus, osteoarthritis, post-traumatic stress disorder, restless legs syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and difficulties with swallowing or breathing.
